The Livermore Woman's Club Sponsored their 5th Annual 5K Run/Walk in support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association on Saturday, April 22, 2017. Rain storms raged throughout the McLean County area pretty much the entire week prior to the 5K and this Saturday was no exception as it was projected to be the worst day yet. However, there was a window of opportunity from 6:00 am to 10:00 am when the rain just stopped! It was definitely on the coolish side of the thermometer and the wind was successfully creating white caps on the Green River, but there was no rain! It was a most excellent and successful event!
We thank everyone who was able to come out and participate in the 5K event with the onerous weather looming on the horizon. Thanks to all of our Sponsors, to the Community, to McLean County, to the Livermore Lions Club for ALL of their help on the day of the event, and to Livermore for supporting this 5th Annual 5K for MDA event.

The official opening of the Christmas Forest to the public was held at the Annual Christmas Gala on December 8th at the McLean County Public Library, sponsored by the Livermore Woman's Club. There were refreshments available and entertainment provided by the Owensboro Symphony's 2nd Street Big Band Piano Player.
This was also the beginning of the voting for guests to select their favorite tree or trees. Voting is accomplished by guests placing their coins (or bills) in the ice blocks by each tree. These proceeds will be applied towards the Livermore Woman's Club Scholarship which is given to a McLean County High School graduating senior. Once the student is selected, the Club awards a $250 cash award per semester, for no more than four years. The student must be a full-time student and must keep their GPA in good standing. At present, the Club is supporting a young lady from Sacramento with her education. Additionally, any donations for the MDA tree will be given to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
If you have never come and walked through the Christmas Tree Forest, we encourage you to come and bring your family and friends. The Forest is open through the end of the year. It is a breathtaking sight - don't miss it!

189 t-shirts waiting to be distributed for the 5K in 2 days!
April 23rd, 2016 arrived a tad soggy with a light mist and “coolish” weather, but it developed into a great day for running, walking, biking or even “strollering” during the 4th Annual Livermore Woman’s Club 5K Run/Walk for MDA. The color of the day was “Safety Orange” allowing everyone to be seen clearly on the streets of Livermore, KY. Registration started at 7:00 am at the Pavilion by the Green River and by 8:00 am all were lining up for the start of the race. Former Mayor, Sonny Renfrow, called out to everyone to be on the ready and counted down 3, 2, 1 ---at which point he, in a four-wheeler, led everyone at full speed onto the 5K course, just barely staying ahead of them! It was really a fun day! And to everyone’s surprise, little Layla Hohimer walked to the Finish Line and sat right down on it, almost as if she was saying “I got this!”

The 3rd Annual 5K for MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association), sponsored by the Livermore Woman’s Club was held April 18, 2015, and has been considered a success by both participants and by the MDA.
A little history: While planning and preparation for this event began back in the fall of 2014, the “hit the road work” started in earnest in January 2015. However, concerns started to arise as the heavy snows of January, February and March had proven too much for the Green River, which had risen well above its banks. Spring rains began their cycle and the questions most consistently asked were “Would it ever stop raining and would the Green River ever stop rising?” This may seem immaterial to most 5K Runs, but the 5K route in Livermore runs parallel to the Green River. The first leg of the 5K, Dr. Sam Scott Drive, was very much under water without much hope of it falling any time soon.
Since water wings were not an option, a reroute was necessary. Additionally, the torrential rains were not kind to the revised 5K route. Consequently, the night before the 5K, when it seemed we might have a window of opportunity to actually run the race the next day without rain, a small contingent representing the Livermore Woman’s Club, the Livermore Lions Club, the Livermore Methodist Youth Group, local business owners and Livermore Fire Department volunteers hit the 3.1 mile route and cleaned the streets. Brooms, shovels, rakes and leaf blowers were the tools of choice.
The day of the 5K dawned foggy and damp – but no rain! And when the sun finally broke through, it was indeed a day of promise. There were well over 100 participants who started arriving for registration at 7:00 am. The 5K started at 8:00 am with the first runner crossing the Finish Line 21:00 minutes later! It was a fast race. Awards for overall male and female winner and for male and female winners of each age group were presented at the end of the race, after which door prizes were distributed to drawn winning tickets. It really turned out to be a winning day for all participants as well as for the MDA! Many thanks to the sponsors throughout McLean County for their financial assistance and to the volunteers who gave their time to help support this event.

Aimee Newberry, President of the Livermore Woman’s Club, presents a plaque honoring members of Livermore’s St. Charles Catholic Church for their Chrismon Christmas Tree. The decorated tree was selected by visitors of the 2014 Christmas Tree Forest, who cast their votes for their favorite tree with monetary donations. These donations will be added to the Livermore Woman’s Club education scholarship fund. The Christmas Tree Forest, on display in the Art Gallery at the Mclean County Public Library this past Christmas season, is a continuation of a tradition that began in 2009. Each year the winning participant receives a plaque with their name engraved on it to be displayed at the library. This plaque is passed on to the winning participant each year.
Chrismon ornaments are decorations with Christian symbols on them. They are traditionally colored white, symbolizing the purity and perfection of Jesus, and gold, symbolizing His Majesty and Glory. The Chrismon ornaments on this tree were all handmade by members of St. Charles Parish.
Shown in photo are Aimee Newberry, George & Carol Rhodes, Marylyne Miller with her grandson Connor Logsdon, Tonya Logsdon and Ann Renfrow.

The Livermore Woman's Club presented a check in the amount of $5,127 to Kayla Aydt, Director of Business Development of the Muscular Dystrophy Association on May 13, 2014. These proceeds were the result of the very successful 2nd Annual 5K Run/Walk sponsored by the Livermore Woman's Club held in Livermore, KY on April 26, 2014, in support of the MDA. This contribution has been designated for use within McLean County for those who are affected by Muscular Dystrophy.
We had forty-two (42) sponsors who were very instrumental in the success of this venture. It was a joint effort and we couldn't have done this without their help and the help of our club membership canvassing the county. (See list below).
We were also blessed with the work of Tessa Wilkerson. She again designed her own t-shirts for her team i.e. "Team Tessa", and sold them at her school and to family and friends for the MDA cause.
Finally, we also had a lot of local people who donated their time, effort and sweat equity. They helped our Club members sweep and clean the 5K course, prep the pavilion area and stand guard at all of the intersections where the participants passed through. They manned the water stations, the Finish Line and cheered on the participants throughout the course. There was a lot of hard work and a lot of love that went into this venture.
Thanks to everyone who invested so much of their time and effort into this project!

"Team Tessa"
Sponsored by the Livermore Woman's Club, a 5K Run/Walk through the streets of Livermore was held, April 13th, in support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association. This organization is close to the heart of our Community, as one of our own, Tessa Wilkerson, has a form of the Muscular Dystrophy disease. She was diagnosed at 10 months and just celebrated her 16th birthday this past month. Over 130 runners and walkers showed up for this cause. There were several who were proud to run and walk as part of "Tessa's Team". She developed the design and logo on her special t-shirt which expresses her to a "T". The T-shirt reads "I'd rather be different than normal". We had young and old alike, all moving for the same purpose. It was an exceptional day for a 5K run through Livermore and many took advantage of this opportunity.
