2017 December 09 - Livermore Lions Club Lighted Christmas Parade
The Lighted Christmas Parade, sponsored by the Livermore Lions Club, has been a big event in Livermore since 1989. It is held annually on the second Saturday of December and this year will be on December 09, 2017. It is a free event and there is no registration fee for any entries in the parade. The only requirement is that the entry be lighted. The floats are judged, and monetary prizes will be awarded to 1st through 5th place winners. The category of lighted golf carts will also have monetary prizes awarded for 1st through 3rd place winners. Parade participants assemble at 4:00 pm in the Livermore Elementary School parking lot and the parade kicks off at 5:00 pm.
A crisp and breezy morning logging in at 29 degrees greeted Veterans Day 2017 - brrrrrrr!
George Rhodes introduced the Special Guests of the day including Senator Joe Bowen and Representative Jim Gooch. Guest Speaker, Keith Sage, Major U.S. Air Force, Retired, spoke of the meaning of Veterans Day to him and to those veterans in the room.
There was recognition of Veterans in attendance who also received a flag lapel pin and a star cut from a retired flag.
Wayne Morris sang patriotic songs, including "God Bless the U.S.A" and Ronnie Dame blessed the meal.
George Rhodes Honored those deceased Veterans who passed away this past year.
After the presentations, the meal was served by members of Americorp. A parade down Main Street to the riverfront where a release of balloons in honor of all Veterans followed the playing of taps by Steve Riggs. A fitting tribute to all who served and sacrificed

31 October 2017 - Halloween Havoc
Even though the calendar showed the 2nd day of autumn occurred on Saturday, September 23rd, no one thought to tell “Mother Nature”! It was 89 degrees in the shade and with the humidity, felt more like 95 degrees! With a bit of breeze throughout the day however, the spirits of those attending the Livermore Hill Street Fall Fest weren't dampened.
The center of it all was at Poole’s Pharmacy Care facility located at the corner of Hill Street and Fourth in Livermore. The grassy knoll next to the building was a perfect spot for three bouncy toys for the kiddos! Vendors set up on the square surrounding this area, provided sustenance and thirst slaking beverages for the attendees. Cromwell Group’s Classic Rock 105.7 FM had disc jockeys on hand from 11am to 7pm.
The “Loose Wheel” a Country, Blues & Southern Rock & Roll Band, set up on site about 11am and played through 6:30 pm. There was a golf cart challenge and games with a golf cart cruise-in around Livermore’s city parks from noon to 2pm. Thanks to Tony’s Carts & Parts for providing prizes for the golf cart winners of the games and challenge.
The scheduled 3-7pm Cruise-In actually started earlier with cars cruising in about 11am and parking on Hill Street. We ultimately had 58 classic cars come into Livermore to visit us at the Fest! And there were trophies also! The Poole’s Pharmacy Care Choice winner was Bobby Swift for his 1971 Mopar, a Dodge Demon. The People’s Choice winner was Rick Kassinger for his 1967 Chevy Chevelle and the Mayor’s Choice winner was John Allgood for his 1927 Pontiac.
All in all, it was a pretty “cool” day to celebrate the beginning of Fall!

Thunder on the Green, a Kentucky Drag Boat sanctioned event, attracts more than 2000 people each year. It is presented by The Kentucky Drag Boat Association (KDBA) and you can contact the KDBA at (270) 763-2833 or you can check their Web Site at www.kdba.net where you can find all of their latest news. This 2-day event is scheduled this year on the weekend of August 26-27, 2017. The KDBA has entered into an association with Lucas Oil to participate in the Lucas race series. Thunder on the Green is now included in Lucas Oil's list of points races. All Lucas Oil racers must compete in at least four races throughout the year in order to be considered for the annual championship.
At Thunder on the Green, boats race down a quarter-mile track set up on the Green River at Livermore between the Main Street and RV Park boat ramps. The boats take off from the Main Street Ramp and exit at the RV Park ramp. The name of the event comes from the intense roar of the engines echoing across the Green River.
Boats compete in classes based on how fast they can complete the race. Classes range from 7-second boats, meaning the boat crosses the finish line only seven seconds after leaving the starting line, to 12-second boats. The boats race at speeds of up to 170 mph.
What a wonderful way to celebrate our country's independence!

The Livermore Woman's Club Sponsored their 5th Annual 5K Run/Walk in support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association on Saturday, April 22, 2017. Rain storms raged throughout the McLean County area pretty much the entire week prior to the 5K and this Saturday was no exception as it was projected to be the worst day yet. However, there was a window of opportunity from 6:00 am to 10:00 am when the rain just stopped! It was definitely on the coolish side of the thermometer and the wind was successfully creating white caps on the Green River, but there was no rain! It was a most excellent and successful event!
We thank everyone who was able to come out and participate in the 5K event with the onerous weather looming on the horizon. Thanks to all of our Sponsors, to the Community, to McLean County, to the Livermore Lions Club for ALL of their help on the day of the event, and to Livermore for supporting this 5th Annual 5K for MDA event.
